# Amazon S3 & MinIO + D-API WhatsApp API

Automatically upload every media file sent and received through the D-API WhatsApp API to your own Amazon S3 or MinIO bucket, in the region you choose.

D-API sends and receives media (audio, images, video, documents) directly from your bucket, removing WhatsApp storage limits and keeping every file under your control, in the region of your choice.

## Highlights

- Works with AWS S3 and any S3-compatible storage (MinIO, Wasabi, R2)
- Automatic media upload/download
- Pre-signed URLs for secure access
- No media size limit imposed by D-API

## Use cases

- ### Compliance and backup

Keep auditable copies of every media file exchanged.

- ### Data lake integration

Feed media into BI or AI pipelines straight from the bucket.

- ### Cost control

Use Wasabi, Backblaze B2 or on-prem MinIO to cut storage costs.

Step by step

## How it works

1. Create a bucket on AWS, MinIO or the S3-compatible provider of your choice.

2. Enter the credentials (access key, secret, endpoint, bucket) in the D-API dashboard.

3. Choose whether sent and/or received media should be stored in the bucket.

4. D-API starts returning URLs from your bucket in every media event.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need an AWS account?

Not necessarily. Any S3-compatible provider works (self-hosted MinIO, Wasabi, Cloudflare R2, etc.).

### Are the media files public?

No. We use pre-signed URLs with configurable expiration; the bucket can stay private.

### Is there an extra cost for uploads?

Not from D-API. You only pay your S3 provider for storage and traffic.
